Cluj-Napoca, besides being the capital of Cluj, is also the historical capital of Transylvania. The first certification of an establishment within the current teritory of Cluj was made by the greek geographer Claudius Ptolemeu, mentioning here one of the most semnificative localities in Dacia, named Napoca. Situated in the connection area between the Apuseni Mountains, Somesean Plateau and Transylvania Plain, the city is placed on the intersection of parallel 46 ° 46 'N to longitude 23 ° 36' E.
Cluj-Napoca is crossed by the european road E60 (Bucuresti – Oradea – Budapesta - Viena). The city of Cluj is served by an international airport called Someseni, placed in the eastern side of the town, between Traian Vuia Street and Somesul Mic River (a 6 km distance from the city’s down town).
In the year of 2009 was inaugurated a modern terminal, with a capacity of 750 pasangers/hour.
The “Lucian Blaga” National Theatre, inaugurated at 1st December 1919, in Avram Iancu Market, is the most important theatrical institution of Transylvania. The building, made in 1907, holds also the Romanian National Opera, the first in the country. Here, we also find the Transylvania Philharmonic, built in 1955.
